Mel Chan, Director of Muse UK Limited is an Interior Architect who gained her BA (hons) at Brighton University. Working within the design community for over 28 years, Mel has held senior roles within the furniture and design industry encompassing design, branding, marketing and sales at Aram Designs, Ruth Aram Shop, Hille, Keen and Modern Garden Company. Notably, she was a founding member of Ruth Aram Shop and Keen.

Mel has also product managed and developed collections of furniture, identifying notable designers Robin Day, Fred Scott, Thomas Heatherwick, Jane Dilllon, Ron Carter and Mathias Bengtsson. Recognising Shin and Tomoko Azumi as stars in the making, she worked with them to develop a stand for 100% Design in 2000 to launch the ‘Brand’ Keen. The stand design gained worldwide acclaim and publicity as Keen was launched. Shin and Tomoko have gone on to design for Muji, Hitch Mylius, Authentics and Isokon Plus.

Mel then identified another budding star in SEA Design and worked with them to develop a D&AD nominated brand for Keen, which led to its inclusion in Claire Dowdy’s book Beyond Logos. As a result, she was invited to create the brief and judge the British Design & Art Direction student award for Graphic Design.

Within the Hospitality Architect/Design sector, Mel has gained an unparalleled network of clients who share her passion for design and quality. Alongside initial clients that have included Chanel, Apple Computers Headquarters, Bliss Spa, Stella McCartney, Stansted Airport, Richard Rogers Partnership and BBC, Mel has more recently worked on worldwide projects with boutique hotels One Aldwych & The Grove, Aloft Abu Dhabi, Raffles Hotel Saudi Arabia, as well as the Hotel Groups of the Four Seasons, Rocco Forte, Radisson, Marriot & Starwood.

Mel has broad experience in the hospitality sector, high end residential, yacht design and property development.

Muse started as a way to encompass Mel’s love of painting, design, graphics, and of course furniture.

Providing luxury furniture and lighting for projects worldwide, Mel also works on select branding projects alongside her hand-painted greeting card range and bespoke wedding stationery.

Architecture, design and contemporary culture aren’t just Mel’s areas of expertise but also her delight.
